Professor Dr. Zainab Baha Mohammed, Director of the Environmental Research Center, supervised the discussion of the master's thesis of the student (Ahmed Safaa Karim) Department of Civil Engineering, specialization (Environmental Engineering) for his research entitled
‏Investigation of microplastics in surface water (river, dam, and marsh) a case study of the Tigris River
‏The researcher addressed in his thesis the treatment of plastic waste from 14 sites in the Tigris River, eight of which are in Baghdad Governorate, 3 in Kut Governorate, and 3 in Maysan Governorate
‏The researcher concluded that the addition of high and low activity WCA (0-15%) to the contaminated soft soil improved the compaction by reducing the compaction index (Cc) from 0.094 to 0.027 and the swelling index (Cr) from 0.0166 to 0.003 and 0.0064, respectively. In addition, the volumetric change coefficient and permeability decreased. With the increase of high and low activity WCA (15%), the volumetric change coefficient (kPa-1) decreased from 0.008 to 0.002, and from 0.008 to 0.004, respectively, and the permeability decreased from 2.7 to 0.04 (10-4) (mm)/s) and from 2.7 to 0.61 (10-4) (mm/s).

Professor Dr. Zainab Baha Mohammed, Director of the Environmental Research Center, participated as a member and supervisor in the discussion of the Master's thesis of the student (Abdul-Ilah Abdul-Hussein Lafta) Department of Civil Engineering, specialization (Environmental Engineering) for his research entitled (Effects of sample crumbling and particle size on accelerated carbonation of alkaline construction sludge treated with fly ash)
‏ The doctor received a letter of thanks and appreciation from the Department of Civil Engineering.

Congratulations on obtaining  a PhD

The lecturers and members of the Environmental Research Center, headed by Professor Dr. Zainab Bahaa Muhammad, congratulate the lecturer Iman Shaker Awad on obtaining a PhD from the Ural Federal University / Russian Federation in manufacturing ultrafiltration membranes from modified polymers by mechanical synthesis under the ball milling approach to treat wastewater from car wash stations.
‏The Ural Federal University also sent a letter of thanks and appreciation to the President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Ghaban, for the efforts made in supporting and sending researchers to Russian universities. It also sent a letter of thanks and appreciation to Professor Dr. Qusay Al-Salihi from the Department of Chemical Engineering in appreciation of his support and assistance to the researcher in completing the work. The university also stressed the continuation of joint cooperation between the two universities.

An appreciation letter from the President of the University to two lecturers at the center  

The President of the University, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mohamed Hassan El-Ghabban, granted an appreciation letter to Dr. Mukheled Amer Al-Sameraiy and Dr. Moayed Naseer, researchers and lecturers at our center, within the ministerial committee (team of the University of Technology) to follow up and inspect the progression of the evaluation exams in private universities and colleges for the academic year 2023/2024, in appreciation and acknowledgment of the efforts made and the excellent role in achieving the monitoring process of these exams.

Visit to the University of West London

As part of the Environmental Research Center - University of Technology policy of openness to foreign universities and under the direction of the Center Director, Professor Dr. Zainab Bahaa Mohammed, on Tuesday 6/8/2024, Ahmed Safaa, assistant lecturer at our center, visited the University of West London in Britain to view the latest scientific research and laboratories at the university, where he met Dr. Nagham Saeed, Head of the Industrial Internet Research Group, where a summary of the university's departments and laboratories was presented by the doctor. This visit is considered an initial one for the university in order to open up prospects for cooperation between our center and the University of West London.
